Healthy Snack Ideas
A lot of my patients ask me about healthy snack ideas. This seems to be an area that challenges people. And I don’t blame them; a lot of so-called healthy snacks are loaded with added sugar and sodium. My advice is to stay away from those processed foods and reach for whole foods. You can always do a smaller version of your breakfast or lunch for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, but here are some additional ideas:
- Handful of unsalted almonds
- Celery sticks with organic peanut or almond butter
- Apple, pear (with or without peanut or almond butter)
- Carrots, cucumber, peppers, celery with hummus
- Homemade guacamole with corn tortillas (drizzle with a little olive oil and bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 degrees to make crisp corn chips)
- Half an avocado drizzled with a little balsamic vinegar
- Lara Bars – gluten-free and dairy-free energy bars that come in a ton of great flavors. I like to keep one in my purse or at my desk.
- Oatmeal
- Plain Greek yogurt with berries and homemade granola
- 2 hardboiled eggs (only 1 yolk)
- Piece of roasted turkey or chicken
- A small fruit smoothie

Great suggestions. I just had greek yoghurt with sliced apples and granola for breakfast this morning – very filling and satisfying. I also enjoy plain hummus with Stacy chips (I don’t think they are too bad) or a handful of almonds and walnuts.
All of your suggestions are simple and just as easy to have around the house as processed baddies.
Thanks!
